Service Awareness and its Challenges in Mobile ad hoc Networks

In mobile ad hoc networks there is no pre-existing network infrastructure, and the topology in such networks may be highly dynamic. This gives rise to various challenges to the network routing as well as to network applications. In this paper we discuss the issue of automatically finding services and selecting optimal servers in mobile ad hoc networks, and propose service awareness as a concept to deal with this issue. The anycast communication paradigm, combined with mechanisms of service information acquirement, is used to achieve service awareness. The preliminary simulation result shows that service awareness can be achieved and it helps reduce network traffic in mobile ad hoc networks.
